The City of Nevada Water, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works, provides water to about 6,925 residents living in Nevada, Story County, Iowa. Founded in 1846, the City of Nevada Water System currently obtains its supply from groundwater sources, primarily wells that drill into the South Skunk Alluvial Aquifer underneath the area near Interstate 35. Before the treatment facility, which is situated along Lincoln Highway on the western side of Nevada, the water is pumped roughly eight miles. Water is transferred from the below-ground storage tank into the transparent well. One of two high-service pumps is then used to pump the treated water into the distribution system and two raised storage towers. The water is fed into the dwellings after it is in the high tanks.
