The City of Sugar Land Water - New Territory, a public community water system under the City Water Utilities of the Department of Public Works, provides water for about 15,966 residents living in New Territory, a city just southwest of Houston, Texas. Established in 1959, the City of Sugar Land Water - New Territory System currently obtains its supply from a blend of sources: majority supply has been groundwater, 14 wells at six separate groundwater plant life, primarily pump water from the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers treated at the City’s River Park groundwater plant and then disbursed to customers. In response to the Fort Bend Subsidence District’s 30 percent alternative water supply conversion deadline, the city has three sources of water available to supply the surface water treatment plan namely: Gulf Coast Water Authority (GCWA), which delivers raw water from the Brazos River to Oyster Creek, the Brazos River Authority (BRA), a water resource in Texas who manages that create three reservoirs on the Brazos River and its tributaries: Lake Granbury and Possum Kingdom Lake on the Brazos River, and Lake Limestone on the Navasota River, and the Oyster Creek which allows the City to withdraw 18,000 acre-feet per year.
