The Davidson Water, Incorporated, the largest rural water system in America, provides water for about 147,455 residents living in the Welcome area. Established in 1968, the Davidson Water collects water from a surface water source, the Yadkin River, via Gregg W. Stabler Treatment Plant. The Davidson Water, Inc. also purchases water from the City of Winston-Salem and the City of Archdale, when demand arises.
