Grimes Water Supply, a public community water system under the City Water Division under the Department of Public Works, provides water to about 15,392 residents living in Grimes, a city in Dallas and Polk counties in Iowa. Founded in 1894, Grimes Water Supply System currently obtains its groundwater supply from the alluvial aquifer, the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer. There are two water treatment facilities in Grimes City. The lime treatment facility first filters sanitizes and softens the water. The reverse osmosis plant is where it is filtered and chemically treated after that. The water is then pushed into service lines, which connect to houses and businesses, before entering the mains. Only Grimes has two water treatment facilities operating in the Des Moines metro area. Residents of Grimes may access soft water thanks to the two-plant system.
