The City of Independence provides water services to about 6,064 residents living in the Independence area of Buchanan County, Iowa. Independence Water Department collects water from five local wells pumping from the dolomite and limestone of the Silurian-Devonian Aquifer and disinfects it with chlorine. The City has three water towers and distributes water to more than 2,800 service connections.
