The Johnston Municipal Water Supply provides water for about 20,460 residents living in the Johnston area. Established in 1969, the Johnston Municipal Water Supply purchases surface water supply from Des Moines Water Works (DMWW). Des Moines Water Works gets its water from surface water sources, the Raccoon and Des Moines Rivers.
