Maxwell Special Utility District, a retail water and wastewater services corporation, provides water to about 5,799 residents living in Maxwell, Texas. Founded in 1887, Maxwell Special Utility District System currently obtains its supply from two sources: groundwater sources, primarily wells that drill into the Edwards Aquifer underneath the area and are purchased from Canyon Regional Water Authority (CRWA), a surface water source that draws water from the Hays Caldwell Water Treatment Plant, located on the San Marcos River, and the Lake Dunlap Water Treatment Plant. Additionally, CRWA also purchases groundwater supplies from Springs Hill WSC.
