The Orange-Alamance Water System, Inc., a not-for-profit membership corporation, provides water service to about 8,892 people living in the Mebane, Elfand, and Eno Cities in Orange and Alamance Counties. Founded in 1965, the Orange-Alamance Water System, Inc. collects water from four deep wells within the system and the Eno River/Corporation Lake, a surface water source. The Water System regularly purchases water from the Town of Haw River, which in turn buys from the City of Burlington, which obtains surface water from Lake Mackintosh and Stony Creek Reservoir. There is an emergency supply from other water companies whose source is the Eno River.
