The Southern Montgomery County Municipal Utility District (SMCMUD), a regional potable water and sanitary sewer systems district, provides water for about 13,272 residents living in the area of Spring, Texas. Established in 1986, the Southern Montgomery County Municipal Utility District’s Water System is currently obtaining its supply from a blend of groundwater and surface water sources. The groundwater comes from the Evangeline, Chicot, and the Jasper Aquifers. Surface water is supplied by the San Jacinto River Authority and is treated water from Lake Conroe.
