The Town of Cary Water, under the Town of Cary’s Utilities Department, provides water for about 189,600 residents living in the Cary area. Established in 1871, the Town of Cary Water’s drinking water source is the B. Everett Jordan Reservoir, more commonly known as the Jordan Lake, a surface water supply developed and managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers and is part of the Cape Fear River Basin. Cary also maintains water interconnections with the city of Raleigh, Town of Holly Springs and the City of Durham, which can be used when the need arises.
