The Union County Water System, under the City Public Works Department, provides water for about 123,533 residents living in the Monroe area. Established in 1842, the Union County Water System primarily collects water from Catawba River (80%). Union County jointly owns and operates the Catawba River Water Treatment Plant (CRWTP) with the Lancaster County Water and Sewer District (LCW&SD) in Lancaster, SC., with which the Union County Water also purchases 20% of its supply from.
