The St. James Water District, governed by a Board of Water Commissioners, supplies water to about 10,587 residents in the Smithtown and St. James areas of Suffolk County, New York. Founded in 1945, St. James Water District sources groundwater from a sandy geological formation known as the Long Island Aquifer System, obtaining most of its water from the Glacial and Magothy formations.
