The Salem Water, under the City Public Works Department, provides water for about 192,800 residents living in the Salem area. Established in 1626, the Salem Water collects from a surface water source, the North Santiam River watershed and transported by gravity from the cascade mountain to Salem, stored and distributed within the 17 reservoir systems located around the city. Additionally, the City utilizes an Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) system, located underground in south Salem, to store and recover finished water.

Salem Drinking Water Quality

Consumer Confidence Water Quality Reports

Lead Report (2019)

B-

WaterZen Rating

Lead levels in the drinking water of some cities across the United States are too high, potentially creating public-health issues for the people living in those areas.

What about Salem Water? How much lead is in your drinking water? And how do those levels compare to other cities in the state? We examined data from hundreds of cities across the nation to understand and grade your water quality.

As you can see, Salem Water received an above-average grade because the amounts of contaminants found in the water supply were lower than most other water providers we've analyzed.
