The City of Batesville Water, a public community water system under the City Water and Gas Utility Department, provides water to about 7,200 residents living in Batesville, Franklin, and Ripley counties, Indiana. Founded in 1852, the City of Batesville Water System currently receives its supply both from groundwater and surface water. The wellfield at Metamora, which comprises 85% of Batesville's water source as groundwater, is pumped to Batesville for purification. Six municipal reservoirs—Bischoff, Mollenkramer, Oser, Feller, Hahn, and Liberty Park—provide the remaining 15% of Batesville's water demand as surface water. These reservoirs are situated east of SR 129 on Bischoff Road and south of town, close to CR 1400, Delaware Road.
