The City of Alexandria supplies water to about 5,149 residents in the Alexandria area of Madison County, Indiana. The City of Alexandria Water Department collects water from groundwater wells drilled 120 feet deep on the East of  SR 9 and South of Old Mill Creek Road at the waterworks facility. The wells draw water from the Wisconsin Till and Silurian Devonian Aquifer system and are disinfected with chlorine before distributing the water to the customers.
