The Craven County Water System, under the County Water Department, provides water for about 32,500 residents living in the area of New Bern, North Carolina. Established in 1712, the Craven County Water System currently obtains its supply from groundwater sources, 18 wells in total. Five wells pump water from the Black Creek Aquifer, an additional five wells pump from the Pee Dee Aquifer, and a water plant and eight more wells pump from the Lower Castle Hayne Aquifer.
