The City of La Grande Water, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works – Water Division, provides water for about 13,245 residents living in the area of La Grande, Oregon. Established in 1865, the La Grande City Water System is currently obtaining its supply from groundwater sources: five wells, three of which are shallow alluvial wells that are supplied by the Grande Ronde aquifer and are known as Gekeler, Island City, and Highway 30 Wells. The other two are deep basalt wells supplied by the Ladd Creek aquifer and are known as the 2nd and H Well and the 12th Street Well.
