The Mohawk Valley Water Authority (MVWA) provides water for about 130,000 residents living in the Utica area, including portions of Oneida and Herkimer Counties in the greater Utica area. Established in 1996, the Mohawk Valley Water Authority collects water from surface water sources gathered in the streams and creeks of Adirondack Mountain watershed, which drains into the West Canada Creek, and carried to the New York State-owned Hinckley Reservoir.
