The South Huntington Water District (SHWD), a municipal corporation formed by the Town Board of the Town of Huntington, provides water for about 81,760 residents living in the area of South Huntington, New York. Established in 1925, the South Huntington Water District currently obtains its supply from a groundwater source, 18 active wells located throughout the community that are drilled into the Glacial and Magothy aquifers beneath Long Island.
