The Village of Suffern Water, a public community water system under the Water & Sewer and Wastewater Treatment Division of the Department of Public Works, provides water to about 12,000 residents living in Suffern, a village in the town of Ramapo, Rockland County, New York. Founded in 1796, the Village of Suffern Water System currently obtains its groundwater supply from four wells located in the Ramapo Valley. Water is pumped to the Water Operation Center after passing through greensand filters and disinfection into the distribution system and three storage tanks that have a combined capacity of 3.7 million gallons.
