The Town of Hempstead Water Department – East Meadow District, provides water for about 110,000 residents living in the East Meadow area, including Bowling Green Estates, Levittown, Roosevelt Field and Uniondale. Established in 1949, the Hempstead Water Department collects water from ground water sources, 32 wells, 29 of which are located in the Magothy Aquifer formation, which serves as the primary source of public water supply in the area. The other 3 wells are located in the Lido-Pt. Lookout Water District and are drawn from the deeper Lloyd Aquifer formation.
