The United Wappinger Water Improvement District, a regional water supply services district, provides water for about 14,000 residents living in the area of Wappinger, a town in Dutchess County, New York. Established as a town in 1875, the United Wappinger Water Improvement District System currently obtains its supply of groundwater under the influence of surface water. The United Wappinger Water Improvement District purchase from the Wappingers Falls Village, which uses three major well fields – Atlas, Hilltop, and Meadowwood well fields, pumping from local aquifers recharged by the Wappinger Creek watershed within the district area.
