Village of Penn Yan Water, a public community water system under the Department of Public Works, provides water to about 5,248 residents living in Penn Yan, the county seat of Yates County, New York. Founded in 1833, the Village of Penn Yan Water collects water from Keuka Lake, the sole surface water source. Raw water is then pumped from the lake into the Water Treatment Plant at West Lake Road and stored in the two reservoirs on the hill above the plant, which have a total capacity of two million gallons.
