The City of Whiteville Water, a public community water system under the City Department of Utilities, provides water to about 5,426 residents in Whiteville, Columbus County, North Carolina. Founded in 1833, the City of Whiteville Water System currently obtains its supply from groundwater sources, primarily wells that drill into the Black Creek and Pee Dee Aquifers underneath the area. Whiteville Water has five deep wells in the area; the elevated water tank on East Hay Street in front of McDonald's is where Well #4 is situated. On Nolan Avenue, opposite the Oak Village Apartments, next to City Park, lies Well # 5. The Old Chadbourn Highway (Washington Street) exit for Whiteville High School's track is off Legion Drive near the National Guard Armory. The location of Well # 7 is at 5401 Pleasant Plains Church Road, immediately after the sign for the city limits. 611 West Lewis Street, which is behind Central Middle School and Optimist Park, is where Well #8 is situated.
