The Kinston City Water, under the City Public Services Department, provides water for about 27,475 residents living in the Kinston area, North Carolina. Established in 1762, the Kinston City Water obtains its supply from a groundwater source, 17 wells that pump from the Black Creek and Upper Cape Fear Aquifers. When the City’s use of groundwater as a water supply was restricted due to the Central Coastal Plain Use Area regulations since 2008, which limit groundwater withdrawals to a sustainable rate, the City currently purchases from the Neuse Regional Water and Sewer Authority (NRWASA). NRWASA supplies surface water from the Neuse River.
