The Southern Water & Sewer District provides water for about 22,480 residents living in the McDowell area, Kentucky. Established in 1989, the Southern Water & Sewer District obtains its surface water supply via the Cities of Pikeville and Prestonsburg, which withdraws from Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River. The source of water for Knott County Water and Sewer is surface water from Carr Fork Lake. Southern Water & Sewer District purchases a portion of its water from Pikeville, Prestonsburg, and Knott County in addition to the water processed at our Water Treatment Plant in Allen.
