East Daviess County Water Association Inc. is a private organization that provides a public community water system to about 11,997 residents living in Knottsville, a small unincorporated community in eastern Daviess County, Kentucky. Founded in 1836, the East Daviess County Water Association, Inc. System currently purchases its groundwater supply from Owensboro Municipal Utilities. On the northeastern edge of Owensboro, along State Route 144, a sizable, deep underground aquifer supplies water to Owensboro Municipal Utilities. As it travels through the earth's layers and into this aquifer, water is organically filtered. Wells that connect to this water source pump water from them. A central collection line gathers the groundwater, which is then delivered to one of the two water treatment facilities.
