The Cannonsburg Water District supplies water to about 8,953 residents living in the Ashland, Greenup, and Cannonsburg cities of Boyd and Greenup Counties. Established in 1983, Cannonsburg Water purchases its water from Ashland Water Works, which collects from the Ohio River. The Water Department also provides a backup water supply to the Big Sandy Water District and the City of Greenup.
