The Mountain Water District (MWD) – Pikeville System, a quasi-governmental water and wastewater service agency, provides water for about 48,286 residents living in the area of Pikeville, Kentucky. Established in 1986, the Mountain Water District – Pikeville System, is currently obtaining its supply via purchase from the Pikeville Water Department, which uses water from the Big Sandy River, a surface water source.
