The West Shelby Water District supplies water to about 5,777 residents living in the Simpsonville area of Shelby County, Kentucky. Founded in 1965, West Shelby Water District purchases water from the Shelbyville Municipal Water and Louisville Water, which treat surface water from Guist Creek Lake and the Ohio River. In addition to the Ohio River, Louisville Water receives from an aquifer utilizing riverbank filtration wells at the B.E. Payne Plant. The water is fluoridated and disinfected with chloramine to improve its quality.
