The City of Brighton Water, under the City Utilities Department, provides water for about 36,010 residents living in the area of Brighton, Colorado. Established in 1881, the City of Brighton Water currently obtains its supply from groundwater pumped from alluvial wells in the South Platte River Basin and the Beebe Draw Alluvium just below Barr Lake. This water is mixed with treated surface water delivered through the City of Thornton, which uses South Platte River, Clear Creek, and Cache la Poudre River basins.
