The South Adams County Water & Sanitation District (SACWSD) provides water for about 61,167 residents living in the area of Commerce, Colorado. Established in 1951, the South Adams County Water & Sanitation District is currently obtaining its supply from a combination of sources: groundwater from 11 wells that draw from the Alluvial Aquifer tributary to the South Platte River and eight deep wells that draw from the Arapahoe Formation. Also, SACWSD purchases treated water from Denver Water, which is 100% surface water that originates from the South Platte River and its tributaries, the streams that feed Dillon Reservoir and the creeks and canals above the Fraser River.
