The Town of Superior - Superior Metropolitan District No. 1 provides water for about 17,170 people living in the Superior area, Boulder County, Colorado. The Town of Superior draws water from rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. The Town collects most of its drinking water from snowmelt in the Upper Colorado River Basin, Carter Lake, via the Northern Water's Big Thompson Project. The water is collected raw and stored in the Terminal Reservoir, which can hold about 130 million gallons of water before it's treated and safe for drinking.
