The Green Mountain Water & Sanitation District provides water for about 11,045 residents living in the Lakewood area, Colorado. Established in 1951, the Green Mountain Water & Sanitation District obtains all of its supply from Denver Water. Denver Water’s water sources are 100 percent surface water that originates from the South Platte River and its tributaries, the streams that feed Dillon Reservoir and the creeks and canals above the Fraser River. Denver Water then stores its water in five mountain reservoirs — Antero, Eleven Mile Canyon, Cheesman, Dillon, and Gross.
