Hardin County Water District No. 1-Ft. Knox is a public community water system governed by a local Board of Commissioners. It supplies water to about 23,600 residents living in Fort Knox, a home rule-class city in Hardin County, Kentucky. Founded in 1952, Hardin County Water District No. 1-Ft. Knox System owns and operates five utility systems, including the original water utility (urban and rural), the Fort Knox Water, Sanitary and Storm Sewer Systems, and the Radcliff Sanitary Sewer Utility. It obtains its surface water supply mainly from Pirtle Spring, Head of Rough Spring, and McCracken Springs. Supplementary supplies are from Louisville Water Company, from the Ohio River, and Hardin County Water District No.2, their sources being the City Spring of Elizabethtown and White Mills Spring.
