The Town of Mulga Water supplies water to about 6,201 residents living in the Mulga area of Jefferson County, Alabama. Water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. Mulga Water and Gas Department purchases all of its water from the Birmingham Water Works Board. The Board treats surface water from Sipsey Fork, Mulberry Fork, & Inland Lake / Blackburn Fork in the Black Warrior Basin and from the Big Cahaba River, Little Cahaba River, & Lake Purdy in the Cahaba Basin. The water undergoes conventional treatment processes, with the addition of Alum, Lime, and Chlorine to kill germs, remove odor, and improve its taste.
