The St. Elmo-Irvington Water Authority provides water services to about 10,020 residents in the St. Elmo area of Mobile County, Alabama. The St. Elmo-Irvington Water Authority was established as a corporation in 1973 and has continued to expand its services to meet the community's demands. The water that the Department uses is obtained from wells that draw from the Miocene-Pliocene and Citronelle Aquifers. It is chlorinated, treated with lime or soda ash to regulate the pH, and added with polyphosphate to prevent corrosion, aerated, and stored in the reservoirs.
