The City of Auburn Water System, under the management of Auburn Water Works Board (AWWB), provides water for about 64,200 residents living in the area of Auburn, Alabama. Established in 1839, the City of Auburn Water Works Board currently obtains its supply from a combination of sources: groundwater from a local supply well and surface water from Lake Ogletree, fed primarily by Chewacla Creek and Nash Creek. AWWB also purchases drinking water from Opelika Utilities, which receives its raw water from Saugahatchee Lake and the Halawakee Creek Embayment on Lake Harding.
