The Gadsden Water Works and Sewer Board (GWWSB), a public community water system, provides water for about 44,637 residents living in the area of area of Gadsden, Alabama. Established in 1867, the Gadsden Water Works and Sewer Board is currently obtaining its supply from a surface water source - the Coosa River of the Middle Coosa Basin, which is fed from the Upper Coosa Basin and multiple aquifers, including Pennsylvanian aquifers, Valley and Ridge aquifers, and Valley and Ridge carbonate-rock aquifers.
