Southwest Alabama Water Authority, a public community water system under the local government, provides water to about 5,196 residents living in Peterman, Monroe County, Alabama. Founded in 1954, the Southwest Alabama Water Authority System obtains its supply from groundwater sources, primarily three wells that drill into the Nanafalia and Lisbon aquifers underneath the county area. The system has 305 miles of distribution piping, three booster pumps with 510 gallon-per-minute total capacity, and four storage tanks: one 150,000-gallon tank at Midway, one 355,750-gallon tank at Ridge Road, two 100,000-gallon tanks located at Franklin, and the other at Ramah.
