The West Lawrence Water Cooperative, a public water supply services authority, provides water for about 15,039 residents living in the area of Mount Hope, an unincorporated community in Lawrence County, Alabama. Established in 1971, the West Lawrence Water Cooperative System currently obtains its supply via purchase from four sources: surface water from Russellville Water and Sewer Board (Lake Elliott), West Morgan - East Lawrence Water and Sewer Authority (Wheeler Lake Reservoir on the Tennessee River), and Moulton Water Works (Pickwick Lake); and groundwater from Courtland Utilities (wells in the Tennessee River watershed).
